Description: Probably the first time when I was able to see M78 well in Finland. There wasn?t pretty much snow on the ground and the sky was pretty dark. This nebula is at its best without filters. There are two brighter spots on the north edge. A blurry and fainter area lies from the centre to the west edge. The southeast area is again little brighter than center and it fades gradually to the background sky. There are three stars involved with the nebula.

Description: This celestial ghost is M78. It's very easy even at 20x but 64x was the best magnification for this object. There are two 11 mag stars involved on the west edge, which is the brightest part. The nebula is cone-shaped which has a blunt end. Faint glow around a 10 mag star in the north is NGC 2071. Filters didn't improve the view, because M78 is a reflecting nebula.

Description: M78 näkyi heikkona sumuna, jonka sisällä kaksi noin 10 magnitudin tähteä. Sumun itälaidalla on pieni lovi, joka kapenee keskustaa kohti mentäessä. Valosaaste haittasi huomattavasti havainnon tekemistä.
