Description: Southern Pleiades. Four and half degrees south from Eta Carinae lie Southern Pleiades about 479 light years away. They are not as bright as the northern cousins, but essentially very similar. The brightest star is third mag Theta Carinae when the rest sixty other stars have magnitudes five and upwards. Stars are mainly blue in colour. It's possible to see some faint reflection nebulosity around the brightest stars in good conditions.
